Japan and Judo

Tokyo 1964, Judo was for the first time on the Olympic games. The main goal for Japan was a gold medal in the Open Category. But everything changed when Dutchman Anton Geesink appeared on the tatami. A broadcast about judo as culture and judo as sport. The broadcast contains beautiful historic judovideos, such as the final between Geesink and Kaminaga. (language = Dutch / player = real player)

The day Japan cried

1964 Tokyo. Anton Geesink beat Kaminaga in the final of the Olympics. A japanese judoka was beaten in it’s own country. From that day on Judo was no longer a Japanese sport, but a worldsport. A documentary with exlcusive footage shot on site during the Olympics. A sad day for Japan, a great day for judo!
